Holistic Yoga
Phil Liney’s “holistic yoga” consists, simply, of a wide range of traditional yoga practices which address all aspects of our being – physical, emotional, energetic, mental, cognitive, intellectual, intuitive, behavioural, ethical, social, spiritual etc – in order to assist our creative evolution.
It works with:
- Physical movement and postures
- Breath and energy
- Mind and emotions
- Wisdom and intellect
- Meditation and inner exploration
- Vibration, sound and song
- Philosophical and spiritual inquiry
- Ethics and relationships
- Stress/relaxation
- Lifestyle (food, sleep, habits etc).
Over the sessions, you will learn:
- Pranayama techniques – sectional breathing, full yogic breathing, rhythmic breathing, ujjayi, alternate nostril breathing, kapalabhati, bhastrika, brahmari etc
- Classical asana and kriya (movements) – different sequences for your foundation practice, for strength and flexibility, for building, storing, balancing and arousing energy, for abdominal and endocrine health, for breath improvement, for relaxation etc (including sun salutation variations)
- Techniques of meditation and working with the mind
- Mantra and bhajan
- Bandha (energy locks) and mudra
- Yama and niyama (behavioural guidelines)
- Yoga psychology and working with mental/emotional afflictions
- Working with the koshas (layers of being)
- Working with the chakras (energy centres) and gunas (universal qualities)
- Key lessons from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and other classic yoga texts
and more – all designed to equip you with practical yoga tools for use in your daily life, personal practice or teaching.
Each session will contain a solid core of asana, old and new, to suit all levels. However, it will also give everyone something else to take away – a pranayama practice, a mantra, an inspirational song, a chakra balancing or kosha harmonising technique, a meditation or relaxation practice, an insight or an aspect of yoga philosophy – to enhance each individual’s daily life, which is the spiritual path.
Sessions are conducted each Saturday 11am – 1pm, in a stimulating and welcoming sangha environment, where everyone is encouraged to find what suits their own needs, interests and abilities – after all, everyone’s yoga journey is different.
