Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar Yoga is firmly grounded in the ancient indian art of yoga.

More than 2,500 years ago, in The Yoga Sutras, Patanjali wrote about Astanga Yoga, the eight-limbed path towards spiritual fulfilment.  Iyengar Yoga addresses this journey from a perspective which is practical, experiential and intensely personal.

It is one of the most widely practised styles of yoga in the world today. When practised regularly, the body will improve its flexibility, muscle tone and general vitality.

B.K.S Iyengar brought yoga to the west with his pioneering teaching in the 70’s, the beginning of today’s explosive growth in yoga.  His seminal manual Light on Yoga, called “the Bible of Yoga” and continuously in print since 1966, has been a source book for generations of yoga students.

His invention of props (now ever-present in yoga studios of all styles), revolutionised yoga.  The use of blankets, belts, blocks and other devices allow students of all skill levels to work safely in the classical yoga asanas (postures).

In class, attention is given to the timing, sequencing and alignment of the poses and reflect the integrity and respect synonymous with Iyengar Yoga.  Students of all levels of experience are welcome.
